Passing of Lion Mike McEvers
Passing of Lion Mike McEvers
Lion Mike McEvers’, Ocoee Lions Club, life on earth ended on July 5, 2021. He was 71 years old. He was married Carolyn for 49 and they had three daughters and several grandchildren. His family was especially important to him. His other loves were being a Lion (since 1992) and playing Santa Claus at Christmas time. He was fondly known as Santa Claus and had the long white beard to go along with it. While a Lion he held several officer and board member positions for the Ocoee Lions Club as well as being awarded the National Melvin Jones Fellowship and the Progressive Merit Awards. He will be a great loss to our club, Lionism, his friends, and his family.
A Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Ocoee Lions Club at 4PM on Saturday, July 17th. If you plan to attend please RSVP to [email protected] before Thursday, July 15th.

Donating Trees for the Holidays
On Sunday, December 9th, the Ocoee Lions Club had the privilege of assisting six (6) families in the Ocoee area with getting a Christmas Tree and the trimmings (ornaments and lights) to hopefully make their Christmas Holiday a little brighter. The Ocoee Lions Club worked with Anthony Hodge, Finding the Lost Sheep Ministry, to identify the families. It was such an honor to meet and work with Anthony and his team. We would like to thank Walmart for the donation of the trees and Anthony for the assistance with locating and coordinating with the families.
The Finding the Lost Sheep Ministries has facilities in both Ocoee and Winter Garden. You can learn more about them at www.findingthelostsheep.com. They are currently collecting toys for their Annual Christmas Outreach program. You can contact them at 407-614-5942 to see how you might be able to assist them with this program.

2020 for 20/20 Project
The Orange Observer ran an article yesterday about the 2020 for 20/20 Project we are working on with the Orange County Public Schools. The project has 6 high schools (Windermere, West Orange, Ocoee, Apopka, East River and Timber Creek) and 1 elementary school (Washington Shores) collecting eyeglasses, readers, and sunglasses (both prescription and regular). We are very proud of this project and can't wait to see how many pieces of eyewear is collected for reuse for those in need.
If you have any unused/unneeded eyewear lying around, please gather them up for donation. If you have/know a student at one of those schools, you can send them items in with them. Or you can drop them off at our clubhouse, 108 Taylor St, or the Ocoee Walmart Supercenter.
Thank you,
President Lion Melissa Tanner
